Paul Van Hummelen

I am a Molecular Biologist with hands-on experience in developing and applying genome-wide technologies in biology and medicine. My interests over the years were focused on studying genetic alterations in the cell and on further developing and applying emerging technologies, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), Genotyping and high throughput Microarrays. In addition, I have formed and managed diverse teams of PhDs, bioinformaticians, technicians and admins and had interdisciplinary scientific collaborations with biologists, engineers, clinicians and relationships with top managers and business development to participate in strategic planning.

At Illumina I was in charge of developing new technologies and applications in oncology using NGS with special focus on liquid biopsies and small FFPE biopsies.

Before, I was leading an Integrated Research Center at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute focusing on NGS for personalized cancer medicine and to study cancer development, improve cancer diagnosis, prognosis and understand acquired resistance to treatment.

In Belgium, I established a high-throughput microarray platform and founded the first core facility in the country, servicing several universities.
